PhD Studentship Advert- closing date 30th June 2016

Endocrine disruptors (ED) are environmental pollutants that mimic endogenous hormonal signals. Exposure to EDs during fetal and early life is a public health concern because these are periods characterized by high cellular plasticity that influence the physiology and development of infertility, obesity, diabetes and cancer later in life.
This studentship will comprise two studies: a clinical study based at the Peninsula Dental School to establish background ED exposure (DEHP, BPA and their as yet un-investigated newer alternatives) in UK children, and determine whether dental sealant applications are responsible for increased exposures; and a community study on toddlers investigating background ED levels. ED concentrations from both studies will be correlated with demographics, dental sealant treatment, environmental factors and dietary habits/ foodstuffs marketed at children to try to determine and ultimately help reduce the main sources of exposure.
